Dangote Explores Investment in Burundi, Meets President
Africa’s richest businessman, Aliko Dangote, has embarked on a strategic visit to Burundi to explore investment opportunities and strengthen economic cooperation between the Dangote Group and the East African nation.
During the visit, Dangote held high-level talks with Burundi President Évariste Ndayishimiye at the presidential palace, where discussions focused on expanding opportunities in key growth sectors and boosting long-term economic partnerships.
Accompanied by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, Dangote described the mission as both diplomatic and economic in scope.
“Our focus really is investing heavily in the African continent, not anywhere else, and so Burundi is part and parcel of that African region,” Dangote said after the meeting.
According to official sources, two dedicated technical teams, one from Burundi and another from the Dangote Group have been established to identify priority sectors and craft viable investment projects.
Dangote highlighted several areas with strong potential, including solid minerals, power generation, agriculture, cement production, and infrastructure development, emphasising that the goal is to build mutually beneficial partnerships that support shared prosperity.
Officials noted that discussions also touched on cooperation in infrastructure, logistics, industrialisation, and energy, key areas Burundi considers essential for its long-term economic transformation.
Observers view Dangote’s visit as a landmark moment that positions Burundi as a credible destination for African mega-investors and integrates the country into Dangote’s broader continental expansion strategy.
