Cristiano Ronaldo Extends Al Nassr Deal Until 2027
Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a two-year extension with Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, the team announced on Thursday, putting an end to months of speculation about his future.
The 40-year-old Portuguese superstar will now stay with the club until 2027.
“@AlNassrFC until 2027,” the club confirmed in a post on X, following a teaser video featuring Ronaldo walking along a beachfront, declaring “Al Nassr forever.”
Ronaldo’s move to Al Nassr in 2023 marked a significant moment in Saudi Arabian football, attracting other high-profile players to the league.
Despite Al Nassr finishing third in the Saudi Pro League and losing in the Asian Champions League semi-finals last month, Ronaldo’s presence has been credited with boosting the league’s profile.
“Ronaldo’s presence is a key factor in developing the Saudi league in the last two and a half years,” a source from the Public Investment Fund (PIF) told AFP last month. “He opens the door for elite and young players to come to Saudi Arabia.”
The PIF, a major investor in Saudi football, controls several Pro League clubs, including Al Nassr, Al Hilal, and Al Ahli. Ronaldo’s decision to stay comes after teammate Sadio Mane extended his contract with Al Nassr last week.
In May, Ronaldo posted “This chapter is over” on social media, sparking speculation about his future.
However, it appears that chapter will continue with Al Nassr. Last year, Ronaldo hinted that he might end his career with the club, which has strong backing from Saudi royals.
Ronaldo’s move to Al Nassr was part of Saudi Arabia’s push to attract top talent to its league, and the country will host the World Cup in 2034.
Despite failing to win a trophy with Al Nassr, Ronaldo was the Pro League’s top scorer with 25 goals last season.
