Buhari Wasn’t a Politician at Heart, But He Loved Nigeria Deeply – Amina Mohammed
Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Amina Mohammed, has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in a London hospital.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television on Tuesday, Mohammed reflected on her time serving under Buhari as Nigeria’s Minister of Environment between November 2015 and December 2016, during his first term in office.
She described Buhari as a leader who, despite his discomfort with politics, was fully committed to serving the nation.
“Buhari was uncomfortable with politics but gave it his all in service to Nigerians,” Mohammed said.
She also recalled how Buhari personally encouraged her to take on her current role at the United Nations, where she now chairs the UN Sustainable Development Group in addition to serving as Deputy Secretary-General.
The tribute comes amid a nationwide mourning period following the passing of the former president, who was laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State.
