Breaking: Court Fines Senator Natasha N5m for Mocking Akpabio with Satirical Apology
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Friday found the suspended senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, guilty of contempt and fined her N5 million for defying its earlier order.
According a report by VANGUARD, delivering the ruling, Justice Binta Nyako held that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan violated the court’s directive by publishing what the court described as a satirical apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio on her Facebook page on April 7, 2025.
The court ruled that the Facebook post, which was meant to serve as an apology, in fact made a mockery of a gag order previously placed on both parties by the court.
Justice Nyako stated: “The said apology, as published, made a mockery of this court’s order. It is contemptuous.”
As a result, the court ordered Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to publish a formal apology to the court in two national newspapers and also repost the apology on her Facebook page within seven days.
Additionally, the court imposed a N5 million fine on the senator, stressing that her contempt arose from civil proceedings and not criminal conduct.
Although the contempt action was filed by Senator Godswill Akpabio, the court declined to issue any personal orders in his favour beyond addressing the contempt itself.
Meanwhile, the court has proceeded to deliver judgment in the substantive case filed by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, in which she is challenging the six-month suspension imposed on her by the Senate.
