BREAKING: Buhari to Be Buried Tuesday in Daura as Nation Mourns


Preparations are underway for the burial of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at a hospital in London at the age of 82.

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State confirmed that the late leader will be laid to rest on Tuesday in his hometown of Daura, in accordance with Islamic rites.

As news of his passing spread, crowds of mourners began arriving at Buhari’s Daura residence, creating an atmosphere of sorrow and reflection. Among the early visitors were neighbours, relatives, close associates, and political allies, many of whom described the former president as a man of humility, discipline, and generosity.

“He was humble, disciplined, and generous in his relationship with people,” one mourner said, adding that Buhari would “continue to be remembered for his character.”

Sulaiman Yarin-Katsina, a longtime friend of the late president, also paid tribute, saying: “Buhari’s unwavering simplicity made him remain deeply connected to his community throughout his life.”

Despite a heavy security presence around Daura and the entrance to the Emirate Council, commercial activities continued uninterrupted along major roads leading to Buhari’s home.

Notable figures who have already visited to pay their respects include Katsina State Deputy Governor Faruk Jobe, Deputy Chief of Staff Mukhtar Saulawa, State APC Chairman Sani Daura, Commissioner for Internal Security Nasiru Danmusa, former SUBEB Chairman Lawal Daura, and AIG Zone 14, Aliyu Musa.

Meanwhile, arrangements are ongoing in London to complete the paperwork for the release of Buhari’s remains. On Monday, Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, arrived in the United Kingdom to receive the body on behalf of the Nigerian government. They were received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.

Since his passing, condolences have poured in from across Nigeria and beyond, with many leaders describing Buhari as a man of integrity who left a lasting mark on the nation.

Born in Daura, Katsina State, Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s democratically elected President from May 29, 2015, to May 29, 2023, and earlier as the country’s military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.
