Barcelona Returns to Camp Nou for Bilbao Clash on Nov 22
Barcelona will make their long-awaited return to the reconstructed Camp Nou stadium on November 22, 2025, against Athletic Bilbao in La Liga, the club confirmed on Monday. This marks their first match at the iconic venue after more than two years in exile.
Since the closure of Camp Nou at the end of the 2022/23 season, the Catalan giants have played home matches mainly at the Olympic Stadium on Montjuic hill.
The stadium’s reopening comes after a series of delays, a year later than originally planned, following a €1.5 billion ($1.75 billion) renovation project plagued by construction chaos.
Barcelona will initially open Camp Nou with a temporary capacity of 45,401 spectators, with the full capacity expected to reach 105,000 once the top-tier renovations are complete. Earlier in November, the club held a test event, allowing 23,000 fans to attend a training session as part of the reopening process.
The club is also seeking UEFA approval to host Eintracht Frankfurt at Camp Nou in the Champions League on December 9.
At the start of the current season, Barcelona had to play two matches at their 6,000-capacity Johan Cruyff training ground after failing to secure a permit for Camp Nou due to safety concerns.
The previous Camp Nou, built in 1957, had a capacity of 99,000. Barcelona also plans to add a roof to the stadium, which is now scheduled for completion in the summer of 2027, a year later than initially projected.
