AFCON 2025: Osimhen Set to Lead Super Eagles in Semi-Final

Published on January 13, 2026

Victor Osimhen will captain the Super Eagles when Nigeria faces Morocco’s Atlas Lions in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 semi-final clash.

The Napoli striker takes over the captain’s armband following the suspension of regular skipper Wilfred Ndidi, who will miss the crucial encounter due to card accumulation.

Ndidi picked up his first yellow card during Nigeria’s Round of 16 victory over Mozambique’s Mambas and was cautioned again in the quarter-final match against Tunisia, ruling him out of the semi-final.

Osimhen is not new to the leadership role, having previously captained the Super Eagles in their final group-stage match against Uganda. The forward was also appointed vice-captain of the national team on the eve of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigeria will now look to Osimhen’s leadership and experience as they chase a place in the AFCON 2025 final against a formidable Moroccan side.
