BUA Chairman Honors Super Eagles with $500,000 After AFCON Exit
Abdul Samad Rabiu, the chairman of BUA Group, has confirmed he will still donate $500,000 to the Super Eagles of Nigeria, despite their penalty shootout loss to Morocco in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-final.
Nigeria exited the tournament on Wednesday night following a 4–2 defeat on penalties to the host nation, after a goalless draw through regulation and extra time in Rabat.
Rabiu had earlier pledged the $500,000 reward to the team if they beat Morocco, along with additional bonuses tied to goals and tournament progression. Despite the defeat, he has pledged to honour the initial promise.
In a message shared on social media, Rabiu praised the Super Eagles for their effort, courage, and unity throughout the AFCON campaign.
“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud,” he said.
He added:
“Sometimes, even our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit, passion and unity you displayed are what truly matter.”
The Super Eagles will now face Egypt in the third-place playoff as they aim to finish the tournament on a positive note.
