2025 ITN Campaign: Deaconess Oborevwori Invested as State Net Ambassador

By Elizabeth Elemi

As Delta State prepares for the distribution of over 3 million mosquito nets, the Wife of the Governor, Her Excellency Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, on Monday was invested as the 2025 Insecticide-Treated Net (ITN) Ambassador.

Deaconess Oborevwori was officially named Ambassador of the campaign during the flag-off of the Measles-Rubella Vaccine (MRV) advocacy roll-out ceremony held at Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.

The investiture was led by the Delta State Ministry of Health in collaboration with Catholic Relief Services (CRS), the Society for Family Health (SFH), and other health partners.

Speaking during the event, which was attended by commissioners, traditional rulers, development partners, health officials, and members of the media, Deaconess Oborevwori described her investiture and endorsement as both symbolic and urgent.

She said, “It is with great joy and a deep sense of responsibility that I stand before you today on this significant occasion of the Investiture of the Delta State Net Ambassador and the official endorsement of the 2025 Insecticide-Treated Net (ITN) Mass Distribution Campaign.”

She noted that malaria remains a persistent public health challenge in Delta State and across Nigeria, accounting for a high rate of illness and death, especially among pregnant women and children under five.

“Despite the progress we have made over the years, it is clear that we must redouble our efforts to eliminate this preventable and treatable disease,” she said.

As the newly invested Delta State Net Ambassador, the First Lady pledged to lead advocacy for malaria prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. She committed to mobilizing communities and encouraging the correct and consistent use of insecticide-treated nets across the state.

“Today’s ceremony is not only symbolic but a clarion call to action,” she added.
