Stop Spread of Old Videos that Threatens Security – Police Warns Netizens

The Nigeria Police Force has expressed deep concern over the resurfacing of old videos on social media that aim to undermine public trust in the Force and threaten national security.

According to the Force, these videos are a deliberate attempt to portray the NPF in a bad light and spread falsehoods that could incite fear and discredit law enforcement efforts.

In a press release signed by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi on Tuesday, the force highlighted two specific videos currently circulating. One features a Police Mobile Force officer allegedly discussing poor conditions while on duty in Yobe State, which the NPF claims is several years old and had been addressed through administrative measures.

The police believe the recirculation of this video is aimed at bringing the institution into disrepute and creating panic among Nigerians.

Another video features an officer from the Counter Terrorism Unit allegedly claiming that banditry is politically motivated and that officers are sent to combat zones without adequate ammunition. However, the police say the claims were investigated and found to be false, and disciplinary actions were taken against the officers involved.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has urged Nigerians to be cautious of spreading falsehood and warned individuals circulating misleading content, stating, “Mischief makers must desist from such acts, as it undermines public confidence in our national security institutions.” The police assured the public that steps are being taken to improve officer welfare and operational efficiency, countering the negative narratives in the outdated videos.

IGP Kayode Egbetokun further assured the public of the NPF’s commitment to combating crime and criminality across the country, saying, “The IGP assures the general public of the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force under his leadership to proactively combatting all forms of crime and criminality across the country.”
