Soludo Sacks Vigilantes, Orders Prosecution Over Corps Member Assault in Anambra
Governor Chukwuma Soludo has dismissed eight members of the Agunechemba Security outfit in Anambra State over the assault and public stripping of a female corps member, Miss Jennifer Elobor.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, confirmed the dismissal on Wednesday at the agency’s headquarters in Awka. He said the operatives would be handed over to the police for prosecution.
According to him, the vigilantes were chasing suspected cultists on Tuesday when they allegedly attacked the corps member an act he described as “totally outside the mandate of the agency and utterly condemnable.”
“The Soludo administration will not tolerate any form of unprofessionalism, brutality or abuse of office by security operatives. Any officer found guilty of misconduct will face immediate dismissal and prosecution,” Emeakayi said.
He noted that although the victim’s family and officials of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) appealed for a quiet resolution, the state government insisted on accountability to serve as a deterrent to future misconduct.
The state government, he added, had already paid for the victim’s medical treatment, replaced her damaged items — including a laptop and phone and issued a public apology to her family, the NYSC, and the general public.
Emeakayi stressed that the incident would be used as a turning point in reforming community security operations across the state.
“This government is committed to professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights in all security engagements,” he said.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, did not respond to calls or messages seeking confirmation on whether the dismissed vigilantes had been handed over for prosecution.
