Single-Term: Fighting Corruption in Nigeria Easier Than Many Think – Peter Obi
The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has said that tackling corruption in Nigeria is not as difficult as many believe, stressing that personal integrity is key.
Speaking on Friday during a youth and leadership session with students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Obi stated that corruption can be drastically reduced if leaders and their families lead by example.
“If you, your wife, and children are not stealing, you have reduced corruption by 60 per cent,” he said.
He cited his time as chairman of a bank and as Anambra State governor, noting that he never took personal loans from banks he led, nor misappropriated public funds.
Obi also reiterated his commitment to a single four-year term if elected president in 2027, saying that transformative governance can be achieved within that period.
“People say, ‘What can you do in four years?’ There is a lot you can do you can bring civility and enact laws that start good governance,” he said.
The former governor maintained that with discipline, transparency, and a firm resolve, corruption can be fought swiftly in Nigeria.
