BREAKING: Protesters Storm INEC HQ, Demand Inclusion of LP Candidates
Supporters of the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) staged a protest on Wednesday at the National Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.
Gathering at the INEC office from around 11:00 am on Wednesday, the protesters carried banners and placards with inscriptions such as, INEC, who is using you against LP, Mahmood, stop destroying democracy in Nigeria, Tell INEC to obey court orders.
The peaceful protest appears to be a direct response to recent developments regarding the exclusion of certain LP candidates from INEC’s published list for the upcoming bye-elections.
Protesters accused INEC of disobeying valid court orders and acting under political influence to undermine the party’s chances at the polls.
This protest comes amid growing tension between rival factions of the Labour Party and increasing scrutiny over INEC’s transparency and neutrality.
As of the time of this report, INEC has not issued an official statement in response to the protest.
