Norway, Morocco Reach World Cup Quarter-Finals for First Time
Norway and Morocco have written new chapters in their football history after reaching the FIFA World Cup quarter-finals for the first time, following impressive Round of 16 victories over Brazil and Canada, respectively.
Norway stunned five-time world champions Brazil 2-1, with Erling Haaland scoring twice in the closing stages to seal a famous victory. Brazil pulled one back through Neymar from the penalty spot deep into stoppage time, but it was not enough to prevent their earliest World Cup exit since 1990.
Morocco, meanwhile, cruised to a 3-0 win over co-hosts Canada, thanks to a brilliant second-half brace from Azzedine Ounahi and a late goal from substitute Soufiane Rahimi. The victory ended Canada’s historic run in the tournament and secured Morocco’s place among the last eight.
Norway will face England in the quarter-finals, while Morocco take on France as they continue their quest for a maiden World Cup title.
The achievements mark a significant milestone for both nations, with Norway emerging as one of the tournament’s biggest surprise packages, while Morocco continues its remarkable rise on the global football stage.
