NOA Clarifies Correct Protocol for Nigeria’s National Anthem and Pledge
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has issued a new public notice clarifying the proper procedure for the rendition and recitation of Nigeria’s National Anthem and Pledge at official and public events.
In the notice shared on X, titled “Correct Application of the National Anthem,” the Agency directed that only the first stanza of the National Anthem should be sung or recited during all official functions. It further stated that the third stanza of the anthem should be rendered as the National Prayer at the beginning of events.
According to the NOA, all three stanzas of the anthem are to be performed only during major national occasions, including Independence Day celebrations, Presidential Inaugurations, Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Democracy Day (June 12), and the inauguration of the National Assembly, among others.
The statement also emphasized that the National Pledge should always be recited at the end of events, in keeping with national protocol and to reinforce unity and respect for national symbols.
The Agency explained that the clarification was necessary to ensure uniformity in the application of the National Anthem and Pledge across the country, as well as to uphold their dignity, sanctity, and patriotic value.
“The National Orientation Agency is committed to building a people of positive values and national pride,” the statement concluded.
