NLC Urges FG to Extend 65-Year Retirement Age to All Civil Servants
The Nigeria Labour Congress has demanded an upward review of the retirement age for all categories of civil servants, seeking to extend the current 65-year retirement age enjoyed by teachers, health professionals, and judges to all public servants.
According to a report by PUNCH, NLC President Joe Ajaero made this demand during the May Day celebration in Abuja, stating, it is imperative to extend retirement age to 65 years.
“It is imperative to extend the revised retirement age of 65 years or 40 years of service currently enjoyed by teachers, health professionals, and judges to all public servants.”
This demand is not new, as Ajaero had expressed the NLC’s intention to dialogue with President Bola Tinubu on the matter in 2023.
Notably, teachers employed by the government already enjoy the new retirement age, following a law signed by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
