Nigerian Army Approves Model Defence School for Delta – CDS
The Nigerian Army has officially approved the establishment of a Model Defence Comprehensive School in Delta State, marking a significant development in military-driven education and national security integration in the South-South region.
The announcement was made in Asaba by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, represented by Rear Admiral Joseph Akpan, Chief of Defence Administration. According to him, the school is part of a nationwide initiative to site Model Defence Comprehensive Schools in each of Nigeria’s six geo-political zones, with Delta State chosen for its strategic importance and the “transformative leadership style of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.”
He stated, “There has been a decision before now to site a Model Defence Comprehensive School in the six geo-political zones of the country; the one for North Central is already at a very high level of completion and it is in Kaduna State. I am also delighted to report that the one for South-West is located in Ondo State, so, this particular trip is to inform the Governor and the people of Delta State that we have found it worthy to choose Delta State as a location for the South-South project.”
He added, “We thank the Governor for opening the door for this massive project that will bring the whole country to Delta. It is something that Deltans will be very proud of.”
Receiving the delegation on behalf of Governor Oborevwori, the Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, expressed the excitement of the state, assuring full cooperation for speedy commencement. He said, “It is a thing of joy that out of the six states that make up South South, you chose Delta. We are not taking this for granted; we will give you every cooperation for this school to come to be as fast as possible.”
The Model Defence School is expected to boost education, promote national unity, enhance military-civil relations, and accelerate socio-economic development in host communities.
