Maresca Handed One-Match Touchline Ban
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will miss Saturday’s home match against Everton due to a one-game ban imposed by the England Football Association.
The ban stems from Maresca accumulating three yellow cards this season, with the latest booking coming after Sunday’s 2-1 win over Fulham.
Maresca’s enthusiastic celebrations following Pedro Neto’s injury-time goal in the Fulham match earned him the yellow card, which sealed his fate. The win was crucial for Chelsea, as it propelled them into the fifth and final Champions League spot, narrowly edging out Nottingham Forest on goal difference.
Nottingham Forest can reclaim the spot if they secure a point against Tottenham on Monday. Maresca’s absence won’t affect Chelsea’s momentum, as his assistant, Willy Caballero, is likely to take charge on the touchline against Everton.
Maresca’s previous yellow cards this season came against Newcastle and Bournemouth. He’ll be eligible to return for the team’s next home match against league leaders Liverpool on May 4.
