Just In: Court Gives NMA 8 Days to File Nnamdi Kanu’s Health Report
The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) to set up a medical team to evaluate the health condition of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
According to a report from VANGUARD, Justice James Omotosho ruled on Friday that the medical experts must submit their findings within eight days.
The court explained that the assessment report will guide its decision on Kanu’s application to be transferred to the National Hospital, Abuja, for comprehensive medical treatment.
Justice Omotosho further directed the NMA team to visit the Department of State Services (DSS) medical facility to determine whether it can adequately cater to Kanu’s health needs.
The judge noted that the committee, which should consist of between eight and ten members, must include a cardiologist and a neurologist. He also ordered that the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital be part of the medical panel.
“The committee is at liberty to make use of any hospital in the country to carry out its investigations,” Justice Omotosho added.
This ruling comes as Kanu continues to face a seven-count terrorism charge in Abuja.
