Jubilation as Nursing Mothers Receive Free Sanitary Products from Mercygate Foundation


It was celebration galore for Nursing Mothers on Thursday, March 12 at the Oshimili South Primary Health Care Centre, Umuagu Asaba when officials of a Non-Governmental Organization, Mercygate Foundation visited the Health Facility to distribute different types of sanitary products to them as part of the International Women’s Day 2020 Celebration.

The nursing mothers who were overwhelmed with joy after receiving diapers, sanitary pads, wipes and antiseptics from Mercygate Foundation, burst into praise and worship to God almighty for the surprise gifts.

The over 80 beneficiaries who were at the Health Centre for their routine post-natal visit for vaccination of their babies, appreciated the founder and initiator of Mercygate Foundation, Mr. Peter Mrakpor for his kind gesture in celebrating the International Women’s Day 2020 with them in a special way.

Mr. Peter Mrakpor, Founder and Initiator of the NGO, who is also the Delta State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice flagged off the maiden edition of the scheme tagged “Nursing Mothers Aid Scheme” in April, 2019 in Primary Health Care Centres in Ughelli South Local Government Area where similar items including sanitary towels, antiseptics, mosquito treated nets amongst others were freely disbursed to over 400 beneficiaries as part of the foundation’s humanitarian service in promoting the welfare of nursing mothers and pregnant women in the State.

Matron of the Umuagu Primary Health Centre, Mrs. Okenyi in an interview with journalists who covered the event, commended Mercygate Foundation for the laudable initiative of using the occasion of the International Women’s Day 2020 Celebration to reach out to nursing mothers in the State.

Mrs. Okenyi while urging other NGOs to emulate the humanitarian gesture of Mercygate Foundation to reach out to nursing mothers and support health institutions in the State, enjoined Mercygate Foundation to sustain the programme.

Earlier, the Coordinator of Mercygate Foundation, Barr. Lilian Eserinune while addressing the nursing mothers, disclosed that the gesture was part of the NGO’s efforts in promoting the welfare of pregnant women and nursing mothers in the State and in commemoration of the International Women’s Day 2020 Celebration.

She said the Initiator and Founder of the NGO, Mr. Peter Mrakpor was very passionate in his humanitarian services in putting smiles on the faces of the people even as she promised that the distribution of the relief materials would be sustained and extended to other primary, secondary and tertiary health institutions in the State.
