‘Nothing Prepares You for a Loss Like That’ — IK Ogbonna on Alexx Ekubo’s Death
More than two months after the death of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, his close friend and colleague, IK Ogbonna, has finally broken his silence, sharing a deeply personal tribute that has resonated with fans across social media.
In an emotional Instagram post on Tuesday, Ogbonna revealed that he had been unable to speak publicly about the tragedy because he was still struggling to process the loss of someone he described as his best friend and brother.
“On May 11th, I lost my best friend and brother, Alexx. Nothing prepares you for a loss like that.”
The actor said grief had left him reflecting on life’s biggest questions, admitting that Ekubo’s passing changed the way he now views love, relationships and time itself.
Questioning why people postpone expressing love, offering forgiveness and pursuing meaningful moments, Ogbonna said the heartbreaking experience reminded him that life is fragile and tomorrow is never guaranteed.
According to him, the loss has inspired him to become more intentional, to love more deeply, forgive more freely and stop assuming there will always be another chance to say the words that matter. He also revealed that the tragedy has strengthened his faith and given him a renewed sense of purpose.
The touching tribute was accompanied by a montage of treasured moments the duo shared over the years, giving fans a glimpse into the bond that extended far beyond the screen.
The post comes just days after Ogbonna delivered an emotional tribute during Ekubo’s Service of Songs, where he disclosed that he still instinctively reaches for his phone to call his late friend, a habit he said grief has yet to erase.
His latest tribute has since sparked an outpouring of sympathy from fans and fellow celebrities, many describing it as a powerful reminder to cherish loved ones while they are still alive.
