Hon Ivwurie Meets Commissioner for Energy and BEDC Over Ethiope East Electricity


Hon (Chief) Evance Ochuko Ivwurie, Member Representing Ethiope East state Constituency, has met with the Delta State Commissioner for Power and Energy, Barr. Newworld Safugha and the Management of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) led by it Chief State Head Mr. Ernest Edgar to deliberate on the urgent need for the restoration of Electricity Power and extension of Electricity Supply to Orhoakpo, Isiokolo, Kokori, Okpara-Inland, Ovu-Inland, Oviorie And Okurekpagha Communities In Ethiope East Local Government Area.

In his opening remark, Barr. Newworld Safugha said that, “The State Executive, the Legislature and the people are gathered before the Management of BEDC, to ask appeal to them to light up the dark parts of Delta state.”

Presenting his petition, Hon Ivwurie noted that, the meeting was to seek lasting solutions over the perennial and unending electricity disconnection of the 7 communities in his constituency including the Local Government Headquarters for over two years.

In his words “I am here today to humbly request your immediate action in respect of the outright perennial and unending blackout/ darkness that seven (7) communities of my Constituency have been thrown into for some years now by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC).”

Stating further, the Lawmaker said, “I have no modicum of doubt that our request will be granted because the cries of over 200 constituents to my house over the absence of electricity power in their homes and business places, has caused me sleepless nights.”

In his response, the state representative of BEDC, Mr. Ernest Edgar, said that he is committed to the success of the Electricity Distribution Company in Delta state and they are willing and ready to reconnect the communities. He however noted that before electricity power can be restored to the communities, the root issues which orchestrated the cut off must be addressed in order to forestall future occurrences.

Mr. Edgar who is also the Strategist and Transformation Officer of BEDC, stressed the need for the affected communities to settle the outstanding debts as this will help in showing sincerity and that various community representatives who attended this meeting should go back to discuss and strategize on how they would corporate with BEDC in establishing a good business relationship. The BEDC state representative commended the passionate effort of Hon Ivwurie in canvassing for the restoration of electricity to his constituents.

The next meeting was scheduled for Wednesday December 21st, 2016 to finally discuss and agree on the terms of Electricity Power restoration and other business terms between Agbon Kingdom and BEDC.

Present at the enlarged Electricity stakeholders meeting which took place at the office of the Honourable Commissioner for Power and Energy were; the Deputy Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Oboroh Preyo and Hon. Daniel Yingi representing Burutu Constituency 1, the Head of BEDC Asaba Business District and other officials of BEDC in the State.
