FG to Begin Payment of Indigenous Contractors on Monday
The Federal Government has agreed to begin payments to indigenous contractors from Monday following a resolution brokered by the House of Representatives.
According to a report shared on X by NTA, the Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu announced the decision in a statement issued on Thursday after a four-hour meeting in Abuja between lawmakers, contractors, and key government officials.
The intervention puts an end to the standoff that saw indigenous contractors protest at the Federal Ministry of Finance over unpaid funds for capital projects executed since 2024.
As Chairman of the House Special Committee on Budget Implementation, Kalu convened an expanded session attended by over 80 contractors, Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy Wale Edun, Accountant-General of the Federation Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, and other senior officials.
Kalu confirmed that while payments will begin next week, further meetings will be held later this month to assess progress. He added that the leadership of the Association of Indigenous Contractors of Nigeria expressed satisfaction with the resolutions reached and pledged to discontinue their protest.
