Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, condemned the killing as a “cruel and senseless act that has no place in a sane society.” He assured the public that the command is determined to bring the perpetrators to justice.
Police Begin Comprehensive Investigation
In a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Command said a team of intelligence and tactical operatives has been deployed to track down those responsible.
“The FCT Police Command commiserates deeply with the bereaved family and the media community and pledges that every effort will be made to bring the perpetrators to justice,” the statement read.
Residents were also urged to provide useful information to aid the investigation by contacting the command through emergency lines 08032003913, 08028940883, or the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) at 08107314192.
Tributes Across Media and Politics
The death of the young journalist has sparked widespread grief in Nigeria’s media and political circles. Colleagues at Arise TV described Maduagwu as a talented anchor, reporter, and producer, whose promising career was cut short.
Several public figures, including state governors and lawmakers, have also condemned the killing, calling for swift justice and improved protection for journalists working in the country.
Rising Concerns Over Journalist Safety
Maduagwu’s killing has reignited debate over the safety of journalists and media workers in Nigeria. Security analysts note that the circumstances surrounding her death highlight both the rising insecurity in Abuja and the vulnerability of professionals in the media sector.
