DSS Issues One-Week Ultimatum to Sowore Over Tinubu Comment
The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a one-week ultimatum to activist and politician Omoyele Sowore over a social media post targeting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In a letter dated September 7, the DSS accused Sowore of making “false, malicious, and inciting” remarks in an August 26 post on X (formerly Twitter), where he described Tinubu as a “criminal” and accused him of misleading Nigerians.
The DSS, through its Director of Legal Services, Uwem Davies, warned that Sowore’s statement had the potential to provoke public anger, disunity, and possible unrest. It further stated that failure to retract the comment within the stipulated time would leave the service with no choice but to “explore all lawful means” to protect national security and public order.
Sowore, a former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) and well-known human rights activist, has consistently been a vocal critic of the Nigerian government.
This latest development adds to the long-running tension between Sowore and state security agencies, particularly in the wake of his persistent criticism of President Tinubu’s administration.
