D’banj Returns in Style with ‘Tobari’ Featuring DJ Obi, DJ Maphorisa
Afropop superstar D’banj is back with a bold and infectious new single titled ‘Tobari’, teaming up with Nigerian nightlife icon DJ Obi and South African amapiano heavyweight DJ Maphorisa.
After over two decades of musical influence, D’banj shows he’s still got the magic with a track that fuses Afro-house, amapiano, and street-pop energy. Tobari brings back the swagger, wit, and rhythmic charm that defined his classics like Why Me and Oliver Twist.
The song kicks off with a line that sets the tone for indulgent nightlife vibes:
“Chilling now in Obi’s house, wearing Timbaland from head to toe.”
Then comes the cheeky and memorable hook:
“That my koko drives her wild”, a clear nod to D’banj’s signature persona as the Koko Master.
Built for sing-alongs and spontaneous dance-offs, Tobari features call-and-response Yoruba chants like:
“To ba ri… ki le fe wa so?”
This transforms the track into a communal anthem, connecting listeners across borders—from Lagos rooftops to Jo’burg clubs.
“‘Tobari’ is a celebration of sound and friendship,” says D’banj. “It’s what happens when icons from different scenes connect; we bring the heat and invite the world to dance with us.”
The single draws creative inspiration from his classic hit ‘Why Me’, while also building on the legacy of his 2024 comeback album, The Entertainer: D’ Sequel, where he reimagined Tongolo and collaborated with stars like Phyno, Akon, Peruzzi, and Awilo Longomba.
