CAF Reschedules WAFCON 2026 to July–August
The Confederation of African Football has officially rescheduled the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to take place from 25 July to 16 August 2026, the continental football body announced on Thursday.
Originally slated for 17 March to 3 April 2026 in host nation Morocco, the tournament was moved after discussions with stakeholders, including FIFA and other partners, to “ensure the success of this important women’s competition,” CAF said in its statement.
The change gives teams, organisers and fans more time to prepare for Africa’s premier women’s football championship, which will also serve as a key qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
Preparations for the TotalEnergies CAF WAFCON 2026 are already underway, and officials remain confident that the tournament featuring an expanded field of 16 teams will be successful and competitive when it finally kicks off in late July.
