Alexander-Arnold Injured in Champions League Opener
England international full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has suffered a hamstring injury, Real Madrid confirmed on Wednesday.
According to a report by VANGUARD, the injury occurred during Real Madrid’s 2-1 Champions League victory over Marseille on Tuesday night. The former Liverpool star lasted just four minutes before being substituted, as the record 15-time champions began their European campaign with a hard-fought win.
Real Madrid played much of the match with 10 men after Dani Carvajal, who replaced Alexander-Arnold, was sent off with 18 minutes remaining.
“After the tests conducted today on our player Trent Alexander-Arnold by Real Madrid’s medical service, he has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury in his left leg,” the club said in an official statement.
According to Spanish press reports, Alexander-Arnold could be sidelined for up to three weeks.
The England defender joined Real Madrid during the summer transfer window to provide competition for Carvajal, who had been out with a long-term injury last season. However, with both right-backs now unavailable, Los Blancos will be without them for their second Champions League clash away to Kairat Almaty in Kazakhstan on September 30.
