Alexander-Arnold Departs Liverpool for Real Madrid
Real Madrid has signed Trent Alexander-Arnold on a six-year deal, with the contract running from June 1, 2025, to June 30, 2031. The Spanish giants paid Liverpool a fee to release the England defender from his contract a month early, allowing him to join before the Club World Cup
Alexander-Arnold, 26, joins Real Madrid after a storied career with Liverpool, where he won the Premier League title this season, the Champions League in 2019, and made 352 appearances.
His departure from Liverpool was met with mixed reactions from fans, some of whom booed him in the penultimate match of the season. However, after former manager Jurgen Klopp and Mohamed Salah urged fans to appreciate his contributions, Alexander-Arnold received a warm reception when lifting the Premier League trophy at Anfield last Sunday.
The right-back’s signing addresses Real Madrid’s struggles in the position this season, with Dani Carvajal recovering from a long-term knee injury and Lucas Vazquez facing challenges playing out of position.
Alexander-Arnold brings exceptional passing vision and attacking prowess to the right flank, although he has faced criticism for his defensive concentration at times.
Alexander-Arnold joins former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid, with Alonso set to lead the team as their new coach. The defender could make his debut for Real Madrid against Al-Hilal in the Club World Cup on June 18 in Miami.
In addition to Alexander-Arnold’s signing, Real Madrid has also acquired Spanish centre-back Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth to strengthen their injury-plagued backline
