Akpabio Returns from London, Dismisses Health Rumours
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has returned to Nigeria, putting to rest rumours about his health and insisting he only took a short vacation in London.
Akpabio arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, at about 4:00 am on Monday, where he was received at the presidential wing by senators, aides, and supporters. Addressing journalists, he dismissed reports circulating on social media that he was critically ill and hospitalised abroad.
“There’s nothing like such. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation,” he said, describing the speculation as unfounded.
The Senate President had earlier attended the sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 29 to 31, before proceeding to the United Kingdom. He explained that Nigeria’s delegation played an active role at the conference in advocating for stronger democratic governance and greater collaboration between arms of government.
Looking ahead, Akpabio assured citizens of a more active parliament once the National Assembly resumes from recess. “We promise robust legislative engagements when the Senate resumes,” he noted.
Backing Akpabio, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Gbenga Daniel, also rubbished claims of his hospitalisation, recalling that he met the Senate President in London in good health.
