Senate President Godswill Akpabio Healthy, Aide Dismisses Rumours
Kenny Okolugbo, Consultant on Communications and Strategy to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed circulating reports questioning the Senate President’s health, describing them as false and unfounded.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief on Thursday, Okolugbo reassured the public that Akpabio remains healthy and is actively attending to his official duties.
“The Senate President is very healthy. You saw him; he’s been attending sessions, and that answers the question,” Okolugbo said.
He cited similar rumours that recently targeted the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who was falsely reported to be incapacitated. “Even Minister Wike was affected by similar rumours. One day they said he was in a coma or had suffered a stroke, and the next day he was commissioning projects and appeared on a live programme,” Okolugbo added.
The Senate President’s aide also called for stricter regulation of social media to curb the spread of misinformation. “We must regulate social media. Everybody’s a publisher online, but they don’t seem to understand that the law prohibits sharing information you are not sure of,” he warned.
The clarification follows claims by SaharaReporters on Monday that Akpabio had collapsed and was flown on a private jet to London for treatment. The online platform alleged that this incident prevented him from attending official duties, including the Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy Paper interactive session held on Wednesday.
Okolugbo’s statement effectively refutes these reports, affirming that Senate President Akpabio remains fit, active, and fully engaged in his legislative responsibilities.
