ADC Coalition Designed to Deliver Atiku’s 2027 Presidential Bid – Kachikwu
The 2023 presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dumebi Kachikwu, has accused the newly formed ADC coalition, led by former Senate President David Mark, of being structured solely to produce former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday in Abuja, Kachikwu alleged that members of the coalition openly admitted during their meetings that their primary goal was to reclaim political power.
“The coalition was engineered and designed to produce Atiku Abubakar as the standard flag bearer,” Kachikwu stated. “If not, I challenge them to make a statement that the ADC 2027 presidential ticket is for Southerners.”
He further claimed that during discussions with coalition leaders, the focus was entirely on regaining political dominance, rather than on equity or national balance.
“All they were saying during my meeting with them was that they wanted to take their power back,” he said.
Kachikwu’s remarks come amid growing speculation about the true objectives of the ADC realignment, which has attracted political heavyweights including David Mark, former governors, and ex-ministers. The coalition is widely viewed as a potential platform for opposition forces aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
As the coalition continues to gather momentum, Kachikwu has called for transparency on the issue of zoning, urging the group to commit publicly to a presidential candidate from the South if their intentions are genuine.
