Nnamdi Kanu Terrorism Trial: All Senior Advocates Withdraw, Court Adjourns to October 24
All Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) representing the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, have withdrawn from his ongoing terrorism trial before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
According to NTA report, the development occurred during Thursday’s proceedings, where Kanu personally addressed the court and challenged its jurisdiction to continue his trial.
Kanu argued that the Court of Appeal had earlier discharged him, insisting that the lower court lacked the authority to reopen the case.
However, presiding judge Justice James Omotosho ruled that the defendant must open his defence, noting that issues of jurisdiction and other legal objections could be raised at the Court of Appeal or addressed in the final written address.
Following the withdrawal of Kanu’s legal team, the court adjourned the matter to October 24, 2025, to enable the defendant to commence his defence.
The IPOB leader had previously listed 23 witnesses to testify on his behalf as he faces a seven-count charge bordering on terrorism.
