Aston Villa Sign João Gomes from Wolves in £35m Deal
Aston Villa have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder João Gomes from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth £35 million, strengthening Unai Emery’s midfield ahead of the new season.
The 25-year-old leaves Wolves after emerging as one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders since joining from Flamengo in 2023. He reportedly underwent a successful medical before agreeing personal terms on a long-term contract with Villa.
Gomes is expected to fill the void left by the departure of Youri Tielemans, with Villa moving quickly to secure the Brazil international as they continue reshaping their squad for the upcoming campaign.
Known for his ball-winning ability, relentless work rate and composure in possession, Gomes made over 100 Premier League appearances for Wolves and established himself as one of the league’s most consistent defensive midfielders. Villa believe his arrival will add energy, defensive solidity and technical quality to Emery’s side.
The move represents another major statement in Aston Villa’s summer transfer window as the club continues to strengthen its squad for domestic and European competition.
