Ijaw Leader Urges Politicians Not to Distract Oborevwori Ahead of 2027

Renowned Niger Delta environmental and human rights activist, Chief Mulade Sheriff, PhD, has urged politicians in Delta State to refrain from actions capable of distracting Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 governorship election, insisting that the governor has performed exceptionally well and deserves the opportunity to consolidate on his developmental strides.

Chief Mulade made the call while commending Governor Oborevwori for the successful groundbreaking of the N59.7 billion Lagos–Asaba Expressway Flyover at the Agbor-Uromi Junction, describing the project as another bold and people-focused intervention by the state government.

Speaking to journalists in Asaba after the ceremony, the Ijaw leader and development advocate said the governor’s performance in office had made a strong case for continuity, stressing that governance, not politics, should be the priority at this time.

According to him, the flyover project is a strategic infrastructure investment that would significantly enhance economic activities, reduce traffic congestion, and improve safety along the busy Agbor-Uromi corridor.

“We have just witnessed the groundbreaking of yet another flyover in Delta State. Only recently, it was Ughelli, and today it is Agbor. This project will strengthen economic activities in this axis and improve the quality of life of the people. The governor deserves commendation for coming to the rescue of Deltans,” he said.

Chief Mulade noted that Governor Oborevwori has consistently demonstrated readiness and capacity since assuming office, adding that his administration has not wavered in delivering impactful projects across the state.

“The governor has shown clearly that he came fully prepared to pilot the affairs of Delta State. From infrastructure to human capital development, he has not disappointed the people,” he stated.

The Ibe-Serimowei of the ancient oil-rich Gbaramatu Kingdom also applauded the governor for the recent presentation of 65 brand-new Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) to traditional rulers across the state, describing the gesture as a mark of respect for the custodians of culture and grassroots governance.

“This administration values our royal fathers. The presentation of 65 SUVs to traditional rulers is commendable and shows appreciation for their role in maintaining peace and preserving our customs,” he said.

He emphasized that the scale and consistency of development across Delta State justify calls for the governor to continue beyond 2027, urging politicians to place the collective interest of the state above personal ambition.

“With the unprecedented development we are witnessing, Deltans should encourage the governor to seek a second term to consolidate on these people-oriented projects,” Mulade said.

He further appealed to political actors to allow the governor focus on governance, adding that more projects were expected across the state, particularly in the riverine communities.

“It is my appeal to politicians not to distract the governor with unnecessary political contests. He has performed extremely well. We expect more project flag-offs this year, especially in the riverine areas,” he added.
