Don’t Sell Your Votes, Obi Warns Nigerians Ahead of Elections
Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to resist selling their votes, warning that vote buying only fuels corruption and bad leadership.
In a statement shared via his official X handle on Monday, Obi emphasized that the Permanent Voter Card (PVC) is the strongest weapon citizens possess to hold leaders accountable and shape the future of the country.
“The voter’s card is the voice of the voiceless, the shield of the weak, and the weapon of the poor against injustice and bad leadership. The greatest strength of democracy is in the voter’s card,” Obi said.
He cautioned Nigerians that politicians who buy votes are not offering charity but simply investing in future looting of public funds. “Those who buy votes are not leaders; they are criminals in disguise,” he stated.
Obi noted that those who sell their votes risk mortgaging their future and that of their children, denying themselves access to quality education, healthcare, and job opportunities.
He called on citizens to participate actively in the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), collect and safeguard their PVCs, and use them wisely during elections. “Our democracy is at stake. Let us stand together and prove that Nigeria belongs to the people, not to those who trade our future for selfish gain,” he added.
According to him, the power to change Nigeria rests in the hands of the people, and a “New Nigeria is possible” if voters make informed choices based on competence, character, capacity, and compassion.
