Cunha to Move to United in £62.5m Deal
Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of signing Brazilian international Matheus Cunha, with the club set to trigger the £62.5 million ($85 million) release clause in his Wolverhampton Wanderers contract.
According to British media reports, the Red Devils have swiftly initiated their squad revamp under Ruben Amorim following a disappointing season.
United’s 15th-place finish in the Premier League, coupled with their Europa League final loss to Tottenham, means they will miss out on European competition next season.
To facilitate the transfer, the BBC states that United will settle the fee in three instalments over the next two years, after Wolves declined a proposed five-year payment plan.
The 26-year-old Cunha has been impressive for Wolves, scoring 17 goals to steer the team clear of relegation, ultimately finishing just ahead of United on goal difference.
Cunha’s ambition, however, lies elsewhere. “I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step,” he told the Guardian in March. “I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”
In addition to Cunha, United are also reportedly willing to activate the £30 million release clause for Ipswich striker Liam Delap, as per an ESPN report.
The England under-21 international notched 12 Premier League goals last season but is anticipated to depart following Ipswich’s relegation to the Championship. Delap has also caught Chelsea’s attention, adding a layer of competition to the potential transfer.
