CAF Stamps Tuesday for Nigeria-Cameroon Match

The eagerly anticipated international friendly between Nigeria’s Super Falcons and Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses will now take place on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta, following the Confederation of African Football’s rejection of a proposed shift to Monday.

The Super Falcons had earlier announced the rescheduling via their official X handle, and confirmed the reversal on Sunday. “Our friendly against Cameroon will now be held on Tuesday, June 3 at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex, Abeokuta, following a late request from FECAFOOT,” the statement read.

According to PUNCH Sports Extra, CAF’s disapproval of the revised date of Monday, June 2, which was proposed by both the Nigeria Football Federation and the Cameroonian Football Federation, led to the reversion to the original schedule.

The match was initially set for Tuesday, June 3, but was briefly rescheduled to Monday, June 2, after the first leg, slated for Saturday, May 31, at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, was canceled due to the late arrival of the Cameroonian delegation.

The Cameroonian team arrived in Ikenne late on Friday, which didn’t allow enough time for pre-match protocols and recovery, forcing both teams to abandon the first leg and focus on a single fixture. Despite the attempt to adjust the plans, CAF insisted on sticking to the original date of Tuesday, June 3.

The Cameroonian contingent has since arrived in Ijebu Ode, where they are currently holding training sessions ahead of the clash in nearby Abeokuta. This match marks the Super Falcons’ first appearance since their narrow 1-0 loss to France in a friendly last November and serves as a crucial part of their preparation for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
