ADC Coalition Will Soon Collapse — Onanuga Attacks Atiku, Obi, Over Anti-Tinubu Alliance
The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga, has criticized the newly formed political coalition led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating it lacks any coherent ideology and is held together solely by resentment toward the president.
Recall that ASABAMETRO reported that on Wednesday, prominent political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai unveiled the ADC as a united platform aimed at challenging President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
In response to the development in a post shared via his X handle on Thursday, Onanuga dismissed the coalition as a gathering of “desperados” motivated by personal ambition rather than national interest.
He stated, “Some members of the hijacked ADC, who were reported as members of the APC, left the APC years and months ago. Let the public not be deceived by the opposition’s narrative about their relevance or whether the APC will mourn their departure.”
Onanuga went on to name several key figures who he claimed had either abandoned or been pushed out of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Rotimi Amaechi, former Attorney General Abubakar Malami, ex-Aviation Minister Hadi Sirika, and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola. He also cited Kashim Imam and former APC national chairman John Odigie Oyegun as individuals seeking renewed political relevance.
He cautioned Nigerians against trusting the motives of the coalition, arguing that it posed more harm than good to the country’s progress. “A political party with no clear agenda or ideology, whose members are united only by their hatred for President Tinubu, cannot be good for our country. It will only set us back by decades,” he wrote.
Onanuga further described the group as power-hungry, stating, “These politicians are desperados, hungry for power, not for the benefit of Nigerians but for themselves. They want power at all costs because they cannot endure another four years in the political wilderness or be banished to political winter and irrelevance.”
Concluding his remarks, he predicted internal discord within the group, saying, “What is certain is that the group will soon unravel due to their irreconcilable personal ambitions.”
