Patrick Ukah Hails Governor Okowa’s Developmental Strides


The Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, has disclosed that within the space of one year and six months 22 roads and 47 contracts were awarded by the state government, adding that out of the 47 contracts, 22 have been commissioned by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Mr. Ukah, who disclosed this while fielding questions from journalist in Akwukwu- Igbo, headquarters of Oshimili North Local Government Council…, during the visit of state EXCO of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to the area, noted that the Governor Okowa led government has performed exceptionally well considering the economic recession and the short period of time.

On job creation, the commissioner said ” 1,000 jobs were created by the job creation agency. Am not talking about the associated jobs, but the ones that went through YAGEP and STEP. The next set we are training now, we are targeting about 1, 000 jobs in the second year. Look at transport, we have started the mechanic village, we have also started our DESTMA programme to restore sanity on our roads and many other achievements too numerous to enumerate.”

He said the governor’s ability to achieve such feats within a short period of time was a clear indication that he has interest of Deltans at heart and would do more in this regard if the funds are there, saying,” When a person is doing well, he should be commended.”

“We are not saying that people should start blowing his trumpet or be praising him, but there is need to acknowledge the fact that he is working despite the trying times to fulfill his promises to Deltans. Those who are not happy with the achievements of governor Okowa, are angry because he is not as extravagant compared to what we have seen in the past.”

The Information Commissioner stated that the government under the leadership of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa remained committed and focused to delivering the dividends of democracy to Deltans, while urging Deltans to be patient and embrace the SMART Agenda as it has what it takes to turn the fortunes of Deltans around for good.
Mr. Ukah also told newsmen that the government would accept constructive criticism from Deltans so that it could make some adjustment to meet the needs of the people, while saying that the governor was not out to service his own interest but the interest of Deltans.

” Tells us where you think we are not doing well and we will correct ourselves. The governor we have, is the governor for all Deltans.
