Oborevwori Commissions 18km of Roads in Ndokwa West
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday commissioned three road projects covering about 18 kilometres in Ndokwa West Local Government Area, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development across the state.
The projects include the 4.5-kilometre Obi-Ibabu/Ibabu Road in Onicha-Ukwuani, Phase I of the 5-kilometre Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road, and the 8.4-kilometre Etua-Ukpo/Etua-Etiti/Etua-Oliogo Road.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony in Utagba-Uno, Oborevwori thanked residents, traditional rulers, community leaders, and stakeholders for their support and warm reception despite the rainfall.
He described the roads as vital projects that would improve transportation, boost economic activities, and enhance connectivity among communities in Ndokwa Nation.
“Today marks another milestone in our commitment to bringing meaningful development to the doorsteps of our people. The roads we are commissioning are critical to trade, commerce and our rural renewal programme,” the governor stated.
Oborevwori said the projects reflect his administration’s determination to spread development across all parts of Delta State. He noted that improved road infrastructure would reduce transportation costs, increase access to markets, attract investments, and stimulate economic growth.
The governor also directed the Commissioner for Works to begin the process for the construction of Phase II of the Utagba-Uno/Ndemili Road project.
While commending contractors for completing the newly commissioned roads, he expressed concern over delays in the Inam-Abbi Access Road and Utagba-Uno-Eweshi Road projects. He directed the Ministry of Works to ensure both projects are completed before the end of the year.
On the issue of electricity, Oborevwori assured residents that efforts were underway to restore power supply to affected Ndokwa communities. He revealed that government had approved the rehabilitation of power infrastructure in the area but lamented the vandalism of some facilities after completion.
“I have directed that work should continue, and I assure you that the persistent blackout affecting Ndokwa communities will be addressed as quickly as possible,” he said.
The governor also highlighted ongoing projects across Ndokwa Nation, including the Emu-Ebendo-Iyasele-Ashaka Road, the Kwale Industrial Park access road, Emu-Beneku Road, Ogbedigbo-Afor Road, and Timber Road to Waterside in Obiaruku.
He reiterated his administration’s commitment to prudent management of resources, stating that the numerous projects being executed across the state are evidence of responsible governance and a deliberate effort to improve the lives of Deltans.
Earlier, Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme described the road projects as the fulfilment of long-standing aspirations of the people of Ndokwa Nation, while several community leaders praised the governor for what they described as unprecedented infrastructure development in the area.
