NSF: Ogun Stun Eaglets, Soar to Final

Team Ogun’s men’s football team has secured a spot in the final of the 2024 National Sports Festival after a thrilling 2-1 semi-final win over the Golden Eaglets, competing under the Invited Junior Athletes initiative, at the Ikene centre on Sunday.

The victory sets up a highly anticipated final against Kwara State on Tuesday at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta. In a closely contested match, Team Ogun rallied from a goal down to defeat the Golden Eaglets, who put up a valiant fight but ultimately fell short.

The home supporters were overjoyed as their team emerged victorious with a 2-1 scoreline. The final will likely draw even more support on Tuesday.

In a separate development, Ogun State’s female football team was eliminated by the Flamingos, also competing under the IJA initiative, who won 1-0 courtesy of Shakirat Moshood’s penalty. The Flamingos will now face Delta State, who earlier defeated Osun State 4-1 in the first semi-final.

Kwara State, meanwhile, edged out Kaduna State 1-0 in the first semi-final, thanks to a decisive goal from Muhammed Abdullahi in the 62nd minute.

The men’s football final between Team Ogun and Kwara State is set to be an exciting showdown, while the Golden Eaglets and Kaduna State will compete for the bronze medal in the third-place match.

The men’s and women’s football finals will be held at the MKO Abiola Sports Complex in Abeokuta, as announced by the organisers of the 22nd National Sports Festival.
