Governor Fubara Returns to Port Harcourt After State of Emergency Lifted
Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has returned to Port Harcourt, the state capital, just two days after President Bola Tinubu lifted the state of emergency imposed on the state.
The governor’s aircraft landed at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, at 12:11 p.m. on Friday. He was accompanied by his Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and his former Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie.
Governor Fubara was warmly received by a large crowd of loyalists who gathered at the airport as early as 6 a.m. to welcome him. The governor, dressed in a dark suit and wearing sunglasses, waved at supporters before heading to the Government House in a convoy.
Several political leaders and allies were on ground to welcome him, including former Commissioner for Information, Barr. Emma Okah; former Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adaeze Oreh; former Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands, Oji Ngofa; former Commissioner for Environment, Sydney Gbara; and former factional Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Victor Oko-Jumbo.
Others present were former Commissioner for Youths, Chisom Gbali; former Commissioner for Physical Planning, Evans Bipi; former NUPENG President, Igwe Achese; former Commissioner for Education, Dr. Tamunosisi Gogo-Jaja; as well as former council chairmen, Ezebunwo Ichemati and Obio/Akpor.
Earlier in the day, two groups of supporters had gathered in anticipation of his arrival. While one group stayed at the Government House in Port Harcourt, the other stationed at the Port Harcourt International Airport to receive the governor. They sang, danced, and drummed as they awaited his return.
Governor Fubara’s return is expected to further boost political activities in Rivers State following the lifting of the state of emergency.
