Delta 8th Assembly: Legislators Triumph Over Executives in Novelty Match

Lawmakers of the Delta State House of Assembly have emerged victorious in a novelty match against the members of the State Executive Council, winning 3 goals to nil.

The highly anticipated event, held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at the St. Patrick’s Secondary School field, was part of the celebrations marking the first anniversary of the 8th Assembly of Delta State House of Assembly.

The match, which kicked off at 4pm, saw 22 players in action, with 11 players on each team, including goalkeepers.

The Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, graced the occasion with his presence, performing the official kick-off.

Adding to the excitement were special cheerleaders, the wives of the House members ,who cheered enthusiastically throughout the match.

The first half ended in a stalemate, with neither team able to score.

However, the second half saw a dramatic turnaround, with the House of Assembly team scoring three goals, all courtesy of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor.

The crowd erupted in joy, with loud chants and music filling the air as the House members and their supporters celebrated their victory.

In a ceremony following the match, the House members were presented with medals and a trophy to commemorate their win.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, was awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title, capping off a memorable day of sportsmanship and unity.
