2027 Election: PDP Begs Peter Obi to Return to Party
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has appealed to Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), to return to the party.
Obi, who previously served as governor of Anambra under the PDP platform, left the party ahead of the 2023 general election, citing his inability to achieve his presidential ambition within its structure.
According to VANGUARD report, the appeal came following an enlarged meeting of the State Executive Committee (SEC) held in Awka on Thursday, where party stakeholders gathered to review the current state of the PDP and strategize for the future.
In a communiqué issued after the meeting and signed by the PDP Chairman in Anambra, Chidi Chidebe, the party emphasized the need to build unity within ideologically aligned formations, warning against partnerships that may not yield lasting political success.
“The committee extends an open invitation to all aggrieved and former members of the PDP in Anambra, particularly our revered former governor, Mr Peter Obi, to return home and reunite with the now rejuvenated and restructured PDP,” Chidebe stated.
“We will gladly welcome our brothers and sisters back to join us in the collective quest for a better Nigeria.”
He called on the Anambra electorate to throw their support behind the PDP’s candidates in the upcoming election, namely Mr. Jude Ezenwafor and his running mate, Mr. Francis Okeke, and urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a fair, transparent, and impartial electoral process.
“We call on the good people of Anambra to remain steadfast in their historic support for the PDP and to come out en masse to vote for our candidates,” Chidebe added.
The party also announced the unanimous nomination of Chief Clems Ezike to occupy the vacant position of National Ex-Officio from Anambra State and called on the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee led by Chief Ali Odefa to recognize and transmit the nomination to the party’s national secretariat.
Chidebe commended the national leadership for successfully convening the National Executive Committee meeting on May 27, noting satisfaction with the framework laid out for resolving internal crises.
