Pondi Pounds Enekorogha to Emerge PDP Candidate for Burutu Fed  Constituency Seat


The member representing Burutu Federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Julius Pondi has emerged winner of the PDP primary election for the Burutu federal constituency with 77 votes to beat his only rival Hon. Frank Enekorogha, a three time member and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly who polled 65 votes.

The Burutu federal constituency primary election which held at the Mein Grammar School, Kiagbodo was peaceful as the sleepy town of the South South National Leader, Chief E.K.Clark witnessed an unprecedented crowd who had come to see who would emerge as winner after months of wide political consultations,speculation and tension.

One hundred and forty three delegates voted in the election with one void vote recorded as delegates filed out to cast their votes ward by ward under very tight security presence.

Announcing the result, the State Commissioner for Water Resources, Chief Fidelis Okenmor Tilije and other officials of PDP who conducted the election said Hon. Julius Pondi haven scored the highest number of votes is returned as the winner and PDP candidate for the Burutu federal constituency.

Tilije commended the delegates for conducting themselves in a peaceful manner which made the election to be free, fair and credible. He said the PDP was one family hence the primary was a family affair.

In an interview, Hon. Julius Pondi thanked the PDP for organising a free and fair primaries election describing it as a win win.

He commended the delegates stressing that he would reach out to all stakeholders including Hon. Frank Enekorogha in preparation for the general election.

Hon. Pondi assured that if reelected at the general election he will do more in terms of quality representation a empowerment to his people and consolidate on his previous achievements at the green chamber.

Meanwhile it was an herculean task for Hon. Julius Pondi to leave the election venue as the massive crowd were chanting “winner oh oh oh winner, “Our leader, “Pondi has made us proud, “and there is hope for the youths” was carried shoulder high as he came out of the gate of Mein Grammar School.

The very long convoy drove straight to his House where it was a carnival like celebration as Ijaw men and women displayed their skillful dance steps of ovwigri while some local drummers charged the atmosphere before the arrival of a Disk Jockey.

Many stakeholders hailed the election describing it as the most peaceful and credible election ever recorded in the entire Burutu local government area sine the political dispensation began in 1999.

They said it was a sweet victory that Hon. Julius Pondi would savour for a long time and urged him to continue to do more as he had clear records of achievements as a federal lawmaker.
