The Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Unit of the Delta State Ministry of Justice has condemned the inhuman treatment, molestation and physical assault allegedly meted on a mentally challenged Woman, Miss Blessing Dada at Boji-Boji Owa, by the hitherto sacked aide to the Delta State Governor, Mr Friday Eluro.

The Director, Sexual Offenses and Domestic Violence Unit, Ministry of Justice, Mrs Uche Akamagwuna who led a team of female Lawyers from the ministry to Boji-Boji Owa, on behalf of the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Peter Mrakpor, condemned all forms of violence and sexual abuse.

Mrs Akamagwuna said that the victim, even though, suspected to be mentally challenged, was protected by law as a free citizen with all rights and privileges.

She condemned the physical abuse of the woman as seen on the video which went viral on the social media networks, where the former aide to the governor was seen brutalizing the victim having been stripped naked and tied up with cords.

She hailed the governor for immediately disengaging Eluro, saying that he was not proper and fit person to hold public office, adding that his action was repugnant and distasteful for dehumanizing the helpless woman.

The Director who called on the relevant security agency to conduct a thorough investigation and charged the culprit to court to face the consequences of his action, reiterated the ministry’s resolve to diligently prosecute him and ensure that justice was not just done but must be seen to be done to forestall future occurrence.

She warned against sexual violence and all forms of abuse, molestation and assault of defenceless citizens, saying that the ministry would not hesitate to prosecute once a prima-facie case was established against offenders.
