Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has once again been commended for his doggedness towards ensuring that the state takes pride of place among the comity of states in the country.

The commendation was made Monday, October 8, 2018 by the Chief Pilot of Air Peace, Captain Egonu Victor, while speaking to newsmen at the Asaba Airport following the resumption of operations in Asaba by the Air Peace carrier.

The first flight from Lagos was received by Her Excellency, Dame Edith Okowa, who expressed joy at the resumption of flights by the carrier saying that it is a welcome development.

Captain Egonu stated that though Air Peace had started flight services in Asaba about four years ago it had to suspend its activities due to poor facilities but following the transformations carried out by the state government, operations had once more resumed.

The captain expressed pleasure at the massive upgrade which the airport had undergone and noted that indeed, the Airport is one of the best in the country and with the upgrade bigger planes would soon start operating in and out of the Asaba Airport.

On the state of the facilities at the Airport, Captain Egonu asserted that the Delta State Government has done what is needed to be done to bring the Airport to international standard and congratulated the Governor of Delta State for the good work.

Speaking after witnessing the departure of the Air Peace flight from Asaba to Lagos, the Commissioner for Information, Patrick Ukah, stated that with the transformation that has taken place, Asaba Airport is now ready to cater for international flights.

“As it stands now the Airport is already tagged at Category Six and expressed hope that by the next few weeks, it will be upgraded to Category Eight or Nine, and will be open to receive flights from around the world.”

Ukah further observed that following the resumption of flight operations by Air Peace, economic activities including ease of doing business within and around the state will be greatly enhanced.

The Commissioner, while lauding the effort of Governor for standing by his words, urged the people of Delta State, South East, and South-South to avail themselves of the services of the Asaba Airport for their air travels as it is now fully ready to cater for air travel needs.
