The Majority Leader, Delta State House of Assembly and Member representing Isoko North Constituency, Hon. Barr. Tim Kome Owhefere KSC, has been described as a superlative lawmaker with an unfathomable gasp of the business of lawmaking and governance, and that these traits has placed him miles ahead of his fellow aspirants in the race to pick the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming primaries.
Speaking to newsmen Sunday, August 19, 2018 at the Lawmaker’s Constituency Office along Ughelli Road, Otor-Owhe, Owhefere’s Media Aide, Comrade Palmer Ogheneyole Nathaniel, noted that the Isoko man is known for his desire for astuteness and excellence and these are according to him, the selling point of the incumbent Lawmaker.
“Within the past 6 months, House 3 (Owhefere’s official residence) has been a Mecca of a sort. Our people has critically examined all those jostling for the position and has come to terms with the fact that as it is today, TKO’s credentials are unmatched”, Palmer said.
“Now let’s take a look at his performance in the floor of the House being a legislator’s primary point of call. Our Lawmaker has never moved any motion nor sponsored any debate or Bill that did not scale through. From candidates for confirmation into various offices to matters of importance to his constituents especially in dire emergencies, and to fundamental issues of governance, Owhefere is always a legislator to behold”.
When asked about the projects the Lawmaker has attracted to his Constituency in all his years in office compared to his colleague legislators in the two Isoko South constituencies, Palmer said;
“If I begin to mention projects, it means we certainly won’t leave here today. I am compiling a comprehensive list of our projects which would be sent to all of you by email. This, to me, is for mere consumption of the media because the people who are directly affected by our projects know too well that the man has delivered on his mandate.
“Let me for the benefit of hindsight mention few of them. I believe you know the Owhelogbo/Abbi road? That is a project worth N300m singlehandedly attracted home by this erudite Lawmaker we are talking about.
“Again the Maternity/health centre at Emevor, the renovation/upgrading of Aradhe Civic Centre and Owhe Town Hall, Otor-Owhe. We built a brand new ultra modern Town Hall in Akiewhe-Owhe. We established a new secondary school in Akiewhe Owhe, constructed a block of six classrooms at Okpe Isoko Grammar School, constructed a block of six classrooms at Aradhe, constructed a block of 6 classrooms, staff office and a toilet in Ovrode, total overhaul of Emo-Eni grammar school, Ellu, renovated the Principal’s quarters in Emo-Eni grammar school, Ellu, constructed Uruloho street in Emevor, constructed Edhomoko community road, constructed School Road, Akiewhe, streetlights in Oyede, Emevor, Otor-Owhe, Iyede and several other communities.
“In this year’s budget, we have the Ozoro modern market valued at over N300m. I was at the site yesterday and I can confirm that work has begun in earnest. Heavy excavation is ongoing at the site. This further confirms Governor Okowa’s readiness to match his words with action. There are also other projects ongoing at various levels of completion.
“However, I overheard one of you comparing my boss’s performances with those of his colleagues in Isoko South. This isn’t funny at all. I have earlier stated in one of my Press Interviews that there is no basis of comparism between my Principal and any other Legislator in Isoko Nation. First let’s look at the indices. Our Constituency (Isoko North) has 13 wards. Our mandate stretches from Aradhe through Ovrode, Ofagbe, Okpe-Isoko, Oyede down to Ellu through Ozoro to Owhe, Emevor and settled in Iyede. Isoko South Constituency I, for instance has only 5 wards and 3 communities namely Oleh, Irri and Emede, while Isoko South II, has only 6 wards. This means that the two constituencies in Isoko South put together have 11 wards while Isoko North constituency has 13 wards. This loopsidedness in Constituency delimitation has remained a big problem to project distribution. It is also amazing to note that inspite of this scenario, Owhefere’s performance is at best described as sterling,” he said
Explaining further, the Lawmaker’s spokesman , said, “Now if a constituency’s allocation in a given fiscal year is N100m for instance, while Isoko North with 13 wards gets a paltry N100m to fix schools, health centres and empower our teaming youths, our brothers in Isoko South gets N200m for 11 wards. This practice is also applicable to employment quota, state government projects as well as projects from interventionist agencies”, he said
He however explained of that the principle of fairness, equity and justice has guided his boss in the distribution of key projects across the constituency. “From the list of projects I reeled out, it is evidently clear that every part of the Constituency was affected. Our Lawmaker is collaborating with the state government in many areas to ensure that Isoko North Constituency and by extension that entire Isoko Nation get what is due her,”he retorted.
He then called on the people to overwhelmingly support the reelection of Hon. Barr. Tim Kome Owhefere and Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to continue the good works they have started.
